India: The Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh inaugurated water supply projects in Imphal this month. Among the projects inaugurated, the Churachandpur Water Supply Distribution Network has been executed by SPML Infra Limited. The scope of work included providing, laying and fixing of 55.7 kilometers of DI Pipe of K-7 class conforming to IS:8329 standard pipeline upto 350 mm diameter including transportation, pipe specials, pipe fittings, lowering, jointing, sand gravel bedding, testing of joints, etc along with pipe crossing steel truss upto 25 meters span and construction of CC/RCC pipe support and anchor/thrust blocks with CC foundation.
Despite the project execution being a challenging task due to mainly hilly areas and high-intensity of rainfall during the monsoon season, SPML Infra Limited has completed the project in a record one and half year time against the project duration of two years. The project under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme in Churachandpur for augmentation of water supply system will provide tap water to around 300,000 population in 73,014 households and it would cover the whole Churachandpur district headquarters while also help in promoting tourism in the area.
While inaugurating the project, the Chief Minister of Manipur appreciated SPML Infra Ltd for their dedication to complete the work before the stipulated time period.
Even though Prime Minister has set a target of providing tap water to every household of the country by 2024 under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the Government of Manipur has planned to complete the target within this year in the state.
